Aboitiz InfraCapital’s LIMA Estate hailed the country’s 1st BERDE-certified district
The LIMA Estate’s BERDE accreditation is the first district-wide certification awarded by the Philippine Green Building Council to an industrial estate in the Philippines
13 July 2022, LIPA-MALVAR, Batangas, Philippines— Aboitiz InfraCapital (AIC), the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group, announced the BERDE-district 5-star certification of its LIMA Estate in Batangas—the 1st industrial estate in the country to receive the accreditation.
AIC participated in a pilot program in partnership with the Philippine Green Building Council (PhilGBC) to secure the Building for Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence (BERDE) – district 5-star certification of LIMA, as part of AIC’s push to attract more investments from both local and foreign investors.
LIMA Land, Inc. President and AIC Economic Estates Head Rafael Fernandez de Mesa said that the certification of LIMA as a BERDE district demonstrates AIC’s leadership in creating smart and sustainable industrial estates in the Philippines.
“We are glad to be the first industrial estate in the Philippines to receive the BERDE-district 5-star certification. This accomplishment validates that the sustainability programs at our Economic Estates are at par with a global standard. It is also an opportunity to raise the profile of Industrial Estates in the Philippines, and to help raise awareness across the region that sustainability is not only present, but that it’s at the forefront of what we do,” Fernandez de Mesa said.
PhilGBC developed the BERDE program in 2009 to proactively address the adverse impacts of climate change. The program, which has been recognized by the government, established the country’s own national voluntary green building rating system to facilitate sustainable projects that consecutively aims to inspire confidence and build trust in the property industry.
Fernandez de Mesa emphasized the importance of ensuring that the sustainable transformation of AIC’s Economic Estates contributes to its commitment to enable businesses and uplift communities.
“At LIMA, we want to make sure that our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policies and programs strike the balance between profit, people, and planet in line with the Aboitiz Group’s overall thrust of driving change for a better world. This underscores our commitment that those who would choose Aboitiz Economic Estates will find a home that checks all the boxes in their ESG scorecards now and in the years to come,” he added.
AIC is also applying for the BERDE Building Certification of the LIMA Tower One, the first of seven multi-storey office buildings to be built at LIMA’s Central Business District, slated for completion in 2024.
In addition, AIC has engaged with global urban infrastructure and managed services consulting firm Surbana Jurong to transform the 794-hectare LIMA Estate into a smart, next-generation, and future-ready economic center to draw more business and green development into the Lipa-Malvar industrial corridor.
