adidas calls on Filipinos to join the movement against plastic pollution with the launch of Run For the Oceans 2022

In its commitment to helping end plastic waste, adidas commits to working with Parley for the Oceans in cleaning up 1 plastic bottle for every 10 minutes of running recorded from May 23 to June 8

MANILA, PHILIPPINES, MAY 2022 –
adidas Philippines continues its commitment to help end plastic waste with the launch of its Run for the Oceans campaign. This year, adidas invites Filipinos to run, walk, cycle, hike, or even kick goals to help end the problem with marine plastic pollution. For every 10 minutes of running recorded via the adidas Runtastic app, Joyrun, Codoon, Yeudongquan or Strava, Parley will clean up the equivalent weight of one plastic bottle from beaches, remote islands, and coastlines before it reaches the ocean (up to a maximum of 250,000kg).

Starting May 9, 2022, interested groups and individuals can sign-up to Run for the Oceans through the adidas Running app which will also be used to track and log their runs. adidas, in collaboration with its running community adidas Runners Manila (aRM), will also be hosting a series of runs and activities throughout the month that interested Filipinos may join to start logging their runs in their personal efforts to help end plastic waste.

AR City Plogging Challenge: Join the community in jogging and picking up plastic waste
Join your city’s adidas Runners team to collect more plastic through a plogging session which will be hosted by adidas Runners Manila on May 22 from 5-9AM with starting points at adidas MOA, adidas Brand Center Glorietta, and adidas Two Parkade, BGC. In partnership with The Plastic Flamingo (The Plaf), plastic collected during the plogging sessions will be recycled into eco-friendly building materials.

10 Minute Store Challenge: Run for the Oceans in only 10 minutes
With the Run for the Oceans campaign, it only takes 10 minutes to make a difference. Because for every 10 minutes ran for the campaign, Parley pledges to clean up one plastic bottle from beaches and coastal communities, adidas challenges mall goers to the Run for the Oceans 10 Minute Challenge in select adidas stores. By running at least 10 minutes in the store’s designated running tracks or treadmills, consumers will not only contribute to the Run for the Oceans movement, but will also get the chance to win adidas Parley products. adidas stores in Two Parkade BGC, SM Mall of Asia, Brand Center Glorietta, and Trinoma will host the 10 Minute Challenge from May 23 – June 8.

For those who would opt to join the movement at their own pace or through other sports aside from running, they can also use the adidas Running app to track their activities during the official tracking duration from May 23 to June 8. The app also recognizes other sports such as basketball, football, cycling, hiking, and a lot more!

One person. One company. One country. None of that is enough to save our oceans. To create true change, we need action from everyone, everywhere. Join adidas and Parley in its Run for the Oceans by signing up at the adidas Running app and logging running activities from May 23 to June 8.
