Manila, PHILIPPINES—Recognizing the importance of sustaining the highest operating standards, particularly amid the challenges brought about by the ongoing pandemic, Metro Clark Waste Management (MCWM) reaffirms its commitment to environmental sustainability and quality management as it successfully renews three ISO certifications in 2021. MCWM bags certifications on Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), Occupational Health and Safety (ISO 45001:2015), and Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015) for the sixth year in a row since it has secured the global standard credential in 2015.

Securing an ISO certification is an arduous process, something MCWM accomplished during a pandemic, and while in the middle of a major expansion of its facilities, such as a new leachate treatment facility, an expanded final disposal area, and all the supporting infrastructure.

“These ISO certifications are a testament not only to our commitment to our stakeholders but also to uplifting the standards of the waste management industry in the Philippines. We aim to become an example to our peers as we ensure strict adherence to RA 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, as well as emulate the best waste management industry practices from around the globe,” said MCWM’s Chairman and Director for Technical Services, Holger Holst.

“There can be no shortcuts to proper waste management, as the potential harm to the environment, to our own employees and to surrounding communities is no joke. Our ISO certifications simply reflect that complete compliance to the laws set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), and other environmental authorities, as well as ensuring our clients’ and employees’ safety, is of paramount importance to us,” concluded Holst.
