BULACAN, Philippines, 12 October 2022 — In its efforts to make its operations more sustainable, the largest end-to-end fresh frozen meat retailer in the country, North Star Meat Merchants Inc., with WEnergy Global and its partner in the Philippines, WEnergy Power Pilipinas Inc., inaugurates its new solar energy project at North Star’s facility located in Guiguinto, Bulacan.
“We are fortunate to be working with the leading international energy firm, WEnergy Global, once again for a new solar energy project. As we continue our push for food sufficiency in the country, we remain socially and environmentally conscious of minimizing our carbon footprint, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and mitigating climate change,” shares North Star Meat Merchants, Inc. Founder and CEO Anthony Ng.
Maintaining its operational excellence through energy conservation
The strategic partnership is an important step toward sustainability for North Star as the savings on electricity costs will allow the company to focus on its overall operations and live out its commitment to providing an adequate supply of quality meat at affordable prices. For North Star, the new project signifies an investment not just for the company but for the environment and society as well.
The company will house a total of 1,846 pcs of monocrystalline solar PV panels covering an area of 4,035 sq.m. The new solar energy project will cover the two storage buildings of North Star’s plant, with approximately 11,176 sqm to drive supply chain cost efficiencies within its operations. This newly launched project is expected to reduce the cost of power consumption and increase the proportion of clean energy in their mix as it is presumed to have 15% reduction in its monthly power expenses and a 23% reduction in carbon footprint. This all translates into an annual savings of 501 metric tonnes of CO 2 – equivalents, which is the yearly equivalent to over 99 million smartphones charged, or over 26 thousand LED lights powered and planting over 406 hectares of forests.
North Star Founder and CEO Anthony Ng and North Star CFO Jed Tan, together with the Business Development Team of WEnergy Power Pilipinas Inc. representatives, Jose Antonio Gozun, Novee Grace Nalica, Marie Antoinette Gaza, and Kirsten Louise Sagun, WEnergy Global co-founder and Board of Director, Konrad Von Ritter, and Guiguinto, Bulacan Mayor, Atty. A partnership anchored on sustainability

WEnergy Global supplied North Star’s main storage system and meat cutting plant with an 830.7 kWP Solar PV Rooftop, strengthening North Star’s operational excellence through its world-class renewable energy system.
For over 20 years in the business, North Star’s Bulacan Plant has been Triple A rated and HACCP Certified, which promises safety across its supply chain. All of North Star’s plants, trucks, equipment, and deliveries have approvals from the DA-NMIS to ensure top-quality services and efficient operations above industry standards. The new solar project launched is expected to further reinforce the company’s efficiency and credibility.
With the continuous developments geared towards the company’s expansion, North Star envisions its facilities to become more beneficial economically and environmentally, maintaining its outstanding productivity through the help of WEnergy Global.
“Today marked a significant milestone for the company, as we continuously champion sustainability and environmentally-friendly solutions in maintaining our overall business operations while fortifying our goal of continuously providing quality, safe, and affordable meat products to our consumers. We are grateful to WEnergy Global for this continued partnership that allows us to take part in our social responsibility while catering to our consumers nationwide.
